As an Atlantic Wall expert on National Geographic’s ‘Nazi Megastructures’
I was born in the Dutch city of Rotterdam in 1986 and graduaded in journalism at the University for Applied Sciences in Utrecht in 2011 with a specialization in photojournalism and photo editing. Rotterdam is probably the reason why I became so interested in history and war because in Rotterdam the history of a large part of the city centre stopped when it was bombed by the German army around 1pm on 14 May 1940. I’m always looking for history in daily life and I also look for associations with the past. As a collector of vintage wartime photography I’m trying to understand why people made certain choices in a time which differs greatly from ours. In street photography I find a way to capture human’s strange behaviour in daily life. But I like people close in front of my camera too. I’m currently finished a masters in military history at the University of Amsterdam.
I assisted National Geographic photographer Gerd Ludwig on assignment in Amsterdam and was an intern at Dutch photography agency Hollandse Hoogte, TV production company Voor de Buis and photographer Jan Bogaerts.
